Dr. Sandy Skotnicki
Dr. Skotnicki-Grant received her undergraduate degree in microbiology and immunology from the University of Toronto. She completed medical school at the same institution, graduating Alpha Omega Alpha. She went on to complete her dermatology training at the University of Ottawa and was awarded her fellowship in Dermatology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in June 1997.
She is a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, Department of Medicine in the Divisions of Dermatology and Occupational Health.
Her memberships include the Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Dermatology Association, American Dermatology Association and American Contact Dermatitis Society. She is past Board member of the Canadian Dermatology Association CDA and presently serves on the Skin Health Board for the CDA.
Dr. Skotnicki-Grant has been practicing in the Toronto area since 1997. She is currently on staff at St. Michael’s Hospital as a Consultant Dermatologist. At St. Michael’s she is a member of the Occupational Disease Specialty Program and is responsible for seeing complex Allergic and Occupational skin diseases.
A leading expert in Allergic Skin Disease, she is one of a handful of dermatologists in Canada with a sub-specialty interest in Allergic Contact Dermatitis and Patch or Allergy Skin Testing. She is also a consultant for the Workplace Safety Insurance Board as well as the WSIAT- Workers Safety Insurance Appeals Tribunal
Active in research and education, Dr. Skotnicki-Grant has been teaching University of Toronto Dermatology, Allergy, Public Health, Occupational and Family Medicine residents at her St. Michael’s Hospital clinic since 1999. She is also a member of CREOD, the Centre for Research Expertise in Occupational Disease, and has published articles on different aspects of Allergic Skin Disease.
Quoted in Flare, Glow, Elle Canada, Toronto Life Fashion, Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, The Atlantic magazine, Shape Magazine, Oprah magazine and the NYT- The Cut as well as The Guardian. Dr. Skotnicki-Grant has been a contributing writer for Allergy Living Magazine, where she answered patients’ questions quarterly.
Her radio and televisions appearances include Breakfast TV, ET Canada, CTV National News, City TV, Global News, Shop Toronto, CBC Radio The National, Doctors Radio on SIXRUS and The BBC. She has also been a consultant for Oil of Olay, Neutrogena and Lubriderm, Dove, Aveeno, P & G, CeraVe and Bioderma.
A passionate public educator, Dr. Skotnicki published popular her science book “Beyond Soap The real truth about what you are doing to your skin and how to fix it for a beautiful healthy glow” May 2018 with Penguin Random House Canada and U.S which became a national best seller. It has seen been published in Czech Republic, Vietnam and Russia. Dr. Skotnicki appeared on Globel News, and The Agenda to discuss her book. Dr. Skotnicki was asked to participate in the Netflix show “Skin Explained” as the only Dermatologist in 2021.
Dr. Skotnicki has been active in volunteering and has participated in two Medical Missions to Haiti with University of Miami Hospital Project Medi-Share. She spent 8 days helping run the wound care clinic after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti in March 2010 and again in 2011. She also particiated in an expedition to the magnetic North Pole in 2014 with the charityy orgainization True Patriot love to raise awareness and funds for wounded Canadian soliders.
Active in art and culture Dr. Skotnicki is a past board member of the Contemporary arm of the AGO and was a member of the art group Partners in Art- a volunteer group that supports and fosters artists in Canada. An avid art collector, she has been part of the Toronto Art fair home tours showcasing her love of photography.
Dr. Skotnicki also loves fashion and was voted best dressed in Canada by Hello magazine in 2009 and the Toronto Star 2007 and 2011.
Most recently Dr. Skotnicki’s love of volunteering has led her to join Sunshine Dogs. She and her German pointer Odin, along with her sons visit schools, universities, hospital, and long-term care home bringing the joy of animal interactions to students and the elderly.
